Second Annual Mothering Me Exhibition

Opening Reception at Art Sanctuary Thursday May 11, 6-10pm- This is an all ages event curated by Marcia Holloway Ross and with twenty seven visual artists with words and music provided by a variety of artists organized by Emily Ibershoff. This show seeks to give voice to those creating art while navigating motherhood. As mothers and artists, we understand the delicate balance between caring for our loved ones and nurturing ourselves through the artistic process. The artwork in this show speaks to striving for that balance. The work ranges from abstract to figurative painting, sculpture, photography and weaving and will be on display throughout May and June.

Featured visual artists include Sabra Crockett, Liz Richter, Melissa Mann Bean, Natosha Via, Shawn Marshall, Briana Fredrick, Kara Bubenchik, Kelly McCarthy, Ton’nea Green, Jacqueline Bryan, Peggy Coots, Catrina Higgs, Rebecca Roberts, Theresa Adamchik, Piper Robbins, Brittany Anne Jennings, Jessie Katherine, Melissa Gaddie, Ashley Stewart, Beatrice Guarneschelle-Holt, Sarah Horrar, Kathy Reynolds, Janna Wardle, Kristina Kleinert, Virginia Sewell, Phyllis Vaught Reynolds and Marcia Holloway Ross. The work we will share ranges from abstract to figurative painting, sculpture, photography and weaving.  

Featured writers for the opening event include Jardana Peacock, Amber Burns-Jones, Sarah Young and Sarah Horrar. Featured musicians include Dane Waters, Kendra LaMure, anne saint x and Em Ruth.

This show is part of the Taking. Up. Space. initiative. The goal of the initiative is to encourage women to create their own opportunities to showcase their artwork amidst an industry that still does not offer equal representation for women. Throughout the month of May nearly 100 women across the globe are organizing art exhibitions with the support of the Thrive Together Artist Network. This platform is offering guidance to those participating on how to put together an exhibition and promote it. It is the second year this initiative is taking place and the second year the Mothering Me exhibition will take place.

Open call for female identifying and non-binary artists who are mothers in the Kentuckiana region. There is no expectation for type or style of work. Submissions need not speak to the topic of motherhood. The common thread is creating art while navigating motherhood. As mothers and artists we understand the delicate balance of caring for our family while also nurturing ourselves through the artistic process. Participants may submit up to 3 works of art for consideration. There is no size requirement for work submitted. There is no commission taken from the sale of any piece in this exhibition. The price of work is set by the artist. Email images to marciahollowayross@gmail.com with a minimum 72dpi with a max file size of 2MB.
